Multan is basically an Agriculture District. More than 80% population derives its earnings from Agriculture in one way or the other. Not only in Pakistan, but also internationally Multan is famous for its mangoes. In recent years advanced Agriculture Technology have been introduced like Laser Land Leveling Technology etc. Cotton is the major foreign exchange earning crop of Pakistan. Central cotton research institute and cotton research station in Multan are playing an important role in researching of new varieties of cotton crop which are introducing through Agriculture Ext. wing among the farming community. Similarly Mango research institute is contributing for introduction of new Mango varieties in the world. Multan District has rich population of Livestock. Our Nili Ravi Buffaloes has been rendered as a Black Gold of Pakistan by the WHO. Buffaloes and cows of our District are contributing major share of Milk and meat throughout the country. District Government Multan, like other departments, contributing much in the development of Agriculture sector to meet the new goals and objectives. In the District website of Multan, information regarding all the five wings of Agriculture Department i.e.  AGRICULTURE (EXT.) LIVESTOCK, WATER MANAGEMENT, FISHERIES AND FOREST can be obtained.

In all these departments, separate “ONE WINDOW OPERATION CELLS” are working for the public from where all the basic information regarding obtaining loans. Making farms etc are being provided.

In all these segments of Agriculture, Farmers can grow more food through INTEGRATED Technology which will ultimately contribute in increasing income as well as National Economy

 
Department of Agriclture Multan

Multan district is distinguished for its status in Agricultural production especially cotton and Mango. It has renowned Agricultural research institutes like

Central cotton Research Institute, Cotton Research Station, Mango Research Station and Agricultural College at Baha-ud-Din Zakria University. All the personnel and Infrastructure required for Agricultural development is available at Multan. It also has a rich cultural heritage.

After the devolution on 14th August 2001, Agriculture group at district level consists of five departments i.e. Agriculture (Extension), on Farm Water Management, livestock, Fisheries and Forest. This group is administered by Executive District Officer Agriculture. Organization set up is given below.
