2. DEMONSTRATION PLOTS AND CENTERS
Demonstration plots and centers through out the district to display improved and proven technology at farmers field which build up confidence of the farmers on the technology play an important role. Therefore, each Agricultural Officer and Field Assistant lay out one to two plots in his jurisdiction.
3. Establishment of Mango Garden Demonstration Block
In Multan, 60 demonstration blocks of Mango gardens comprising 3 to 5 acres each have been selected for transfer of technology. All operations like Pruning, fertilizer application, pest control; watering and soil sampling were performed by the personals of Agriculture Extension under the supervision of trained Agriculture Officers. Gypsum and Micronutrients were provided by the Department while remaining by the owner. The results of such demonstrations were very much encouraging.
4. Installation of Fruit Fly Traps in Mango Gardens
Control of mango fruit fly with traps is a safe and successful way. Agriculture Extension Department installed fruit fly traps in five acres mango garden block in 65 Union Councils of Multan district on free of cost to popularize this technology. Chemical mounted capsule were also given on free of cost.
5. Field Days
Farmers gathering at demonstration plots play a vital role in bridging the gap between findings of research and performance at the farmer’s field. Therefore, field days were arranged at the demonstration plots in each season
6. Erection of Burjies and Wall Mottos
Erection and writing of mottos on the mud made burjies also an important method for transfer of technology, which is being done through out the district on all roadsides. More than 200 burjies of equal size have been erected on which slogans are being written according to the crop season for special attention of the farming community.
7. Agricultural Information Centres
At each markaz Agriculture information centers have been established, where visiting farmers are acquainted with knowledge. At these centers each Agricultural Officer remained present within 13.00 to 15.00 hours daily.
8. Monitoring of Inputs
To ensure the quantitative and qualitative supply of pesticides through out the district Multan, monitoring is continuously done through out the year,
To ensure the supply of quality fertilizer throughout district monitoring is being done.
9. Monitoring of Bollworm Population
Installation of P.B.Ropes to check the intensity of moth catches of pink and American bollworm is very much important. For the purpose P.B.Ropes were installed in 1500 Acre of cotton fields with cooperation of private sector on which intensity of arrival are noted twice in a week during cotton season.
10. Pest Scouting of Cotton Crop
Cotton crop is infested by sucking insects and bollworms. By adopting plant protection measures, damage can be minimized. For this purpose, extension wings under takes pest scouting of the cotton crop from 15th July to 15th October to guide the farming community to save their crop by spraying appropriate pesticide at proper time and dose of pesticides recommended for the particular pest.
